Story: This version of Annie has been modernized. Annie is a foster child living in an apartment with other foster kids instead of being classified as little orphan Annie like she is described in the prior two films. ” she’s been situated within a universe that’s contemporary, but which nonetheless connects forcefully with the Depression-era landscapes of the stage musical, the ’99 and ’82 films, and the source material that inspired all them, Harold Gray’s comic strip. All were about maintaining one’s optimism in the face of personal misfortune exacerbated by a Grand Canyon-vast gap between rich and poor; they were about the difficulty of staying sensible, and sensitive, in world in which everyone but the very wealthy had to struggle constantly, and deny themselves pleasures, and some essentials.” (Sietz, 2014).Annie’s life changes when she meets a man whom is running for Mayor by the name of Will Stacks
Plot: The film starts of with students from Annie’s class having to do individual presentations in front of the entire class about former presidents. Annie did her presentation on Franklin D. Roosevelt. Annie turn her presentation into a musical form. Annie works hard to gather information about her birth parents only to not find much information on them. She was almost hit by a car. Will Stacks who is played by Jamie Foxx saved her life by pushing her out of harms way. Someone caught this on camera. Will Stacks was running for mayor so his campaign team thought that it would be great P.R. for him to capitalize on this incident. Annie new what they were up to and agreed to be apart of it. Stacks later becomes her foster parent. Annie’s presence soften William Stacks hard exterior. Later in the film they go to a Stacks Mobile event at a museum. Annie is asked to read a screen but runs away. William Stacks chases her where she reveals that she can’t read. He got her a tutor. Guy who is played by Bobby Cannavale comes up with a plan that involved hiring actors to pretend they are Annie’s parents but Ms. Hannigan played by Cameron Diaz reveals Guy’s plan. When Annie and William Stacks reunited Stacks and Annie discuss Stacks’ intentions with her and he adopted her.
Chronology: This film had a consistent sense of chronological order. The film did not start of with what happened prior to Annie becoming a foster child. However, it showed events leading up to her meeting William Stacks but the chronology was not really strong. If this film t unfold in non-linear then I think this film might have lost the interest of the audience.
